Installing a new fridge may not seem like a very difficult process but it is very physically demanding and there are some tricky parts that must be set up at the installation point for your fridge to be fully functioning. Here are some things to consider before deciding which refrigerator to purchase.
What’s in the box?
While this may seem obvious, your new refrigerator will come in a refrigerator sized box with a refrigerator’s amount of protective packaging. You will need to have a way to recycle or dispose of the box and all of the packaging.
Plan your route
Make sure to plan out the best moving route for your fridge. Measure the fridge and the doorways it will need to fit through on its way to its new home, often new buyers measure the space where the fridge is going to go and forget that it also needs to get there. It is also recommended that you use a dolly to move your fridge as it will be far safer and more efficient for both you and your fridge, so remember to account for any additional space that the dolly may require
Check your space
Check the space your fridge is going into, not only that it will fit but also that there is enough space for ventilation as recommended and that there is space for all of the cables and pipes to fit without being caught when you slide the fridge into place.
Read the manual
You can download and research most new refrigerator manuals online. Read through it to see which parts are loose and can be removed – you may need to remove the doors of the refrigerator to get it to fit through doorways and these often require a particular order or special knack on how they come off safely.
Removing other loose components such as shelves and drawers will also make the fridge lighter when it is being carried.

From bathrooms to kitchens and outdoor living – tiles are an easy to clean, easy to maintain, water-resistant option that come in a wide variety of styles and designs to suit all personalities. Grout on the other hand is great at keeping tiles together but it can be prone to stains and cracks and requires proper cleaning and maintenance.
We look at some ways to keep your grout clean, extend its life and avoid wasting time and money on repeated grout replacement.
Stay on top of things
While it may seem like just an extra chore to add to your daily routine, a daily wiping and spraying after your baths or showers will go a long way in keeping your grout clean and preventing staining and damage in the long run.
Get yourself a great squeegee and get into the habit of running it over the tiles and glass after your bath or shower to remove the excess water. Then lightly spray your tiles or glass with a mild shower cleaner, many cleaning brands have a daily shower cleaner or you can make your own by mixing 4 parts water to 1 part vinegar.
Give the nooks and crannies a Deep Clean
Your daily cleaning will help to keep things clean but every 2 weeks to once a month (depending on how much your bathroom is used) you will also need to do a deeper clean to get rid of soap scum and build up that gets into all the nooks and crannies between the tiles. Make a simple paste of water and baking soda and rub it into the grout with an old toothbrush, then rinse with clean water.
For Stubborn Stains
For grout that has some stubborn stains you may need to break out the bleach. Gel bleach solutions work great to get into the smaller spaces and also minimise the contact with your tile. Apply it to the stubborn stain areas and allow it to sit for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse with clean water.
Signs that it is time to replace your grout include flaking and breaking, and tiles becoming loose or coming off. As soon as you see this kind of breakage it is important to take action as this is when water will be able to seep into your walls or floor and cause much worse damage. Hiring a professional to redo your grout is your best bet for the longevity of your tiles going forward, a professional will also be able to advise you on grout and tile sealers that will add an extra layer of protection to your new grout.

Should you banish the bath?
Huge, walk-in tiled showers are a big trend at the moment and many people are considering taking out their bath tubs to replace them with large showers. Consider what this could mean should you decide to sell in the future – you may not enjoy baths, but bath tubs are an invaluable asset for families with small children and even pet owners.
You can never have too much storage!
When multiple people are sharing a bathroom, there is no such thing as too much storage! Not only will it provide plenty of room to store your essentials, it will also make it so much easier to keep the bathroom neat and tidy. Alongside the usual storage areas such as the medicine cabinet and under counter cabinets, you can consider adding in your own custom storage in areas that are unique to your bathroom. Do you have high ceilings? Add a storage shelf above the door. Use the space above and around the toilet for more shelving and storage.
Keep it simple – and easy to clean!
Be careful to avoid elements that may seem super stylish and catch your eye in the showroom. These shiny chrome fixtures and mirror finishes may be beautiful, but remember surfaces like these will quickly and easily accumulate lots of fingerprints. Beautiful small mosaic tiles or very textured tiles will mean more grout lines to scrub and keep clean, and a lot of accumulated dust and grime in all of the little nooks and crannies of the tiles.

Picture the scene – you are just about to brush your teeth and as you turn on the tap a stream of brown, cloudy water runs out. Gross! Dirty water may not always be harmful but it can be disturbing and it is definitely something to have checked out immediately.
If you have brown water coming out of your taps it could be due to corroded pipes, mineral build up or maintenance operations on the main lines.
Tap water looks rusty brown, yellowish, or reddish when it contains an excess of sediment or minerals.
The most common discolouring minerals present in water are iron and manganese. While these minerals aren’t typically harmful to humans, manganese and iron in water may mean that your tap water smells bad or tastes funny. A plumber can test the water quality in your home to make sure nothing else is going on.
If all of your water (hot and cold) suddenly goes brown:
Sudden change from clear to rusty water could be the result of nearby utility maintenance or a break in a city-operated water main or fire hydrant. Or your geyser or your water supply pipes may have become rusty or corroded, and that brown water from your tap is the beginning sign of those changes.
If only your hot water is discoloured:
Sediment or rust may have built up in your geyser. Your plumber can trace the reason for this.
If you get brown water from your cold tap and only from certain taps:
The problem is probably with a particular water supply pipe. Home plumbing clogs and corrodes over time, especial if your water has a high mineral content.
