Keep your bathroom warm in winter

Keep your bathroom warm in winter

Winter has well and truly arrived and there is nothing worse than stripping off your clothes to get into the bath or shower in a cold bathroom! Brrr!

Here are some ideas for keeping your bathroom warm this winter:

Check the Windows
Check your windows and make sure that they seal properly. The frame shouldn’t have any holes, cracks or gaps which will let heat escape and allow cold to get in from outside. This is a relatively quick and cheap fix and will make all the difference to the temperature of your bathroom in winter. Instead of leaving windows open, fit an extractor fan in your bathroom to prevent a build-up of condensation whenever you’re running hot water.

Heated Towel Rails
Heated Towel Rails are a cost-effective and modern way of increasing the temperature in your bathroom while also providing the luxuriousness of a lovely warm towel.

Underfloor Heating
Freezing cold floor tiles? No, thank you! Underfloor heating not only takes the chill off of the floor, but as heat rises it will keep the entire bathroom warmed up too. And even better, you can install a timer so the floors are already turned on and ready for you whenever you need them. No more cold tiled bathroom floors making you dread getting up and out of bed in the morning – underfloor bathroom heating is a great investment and one that you certainly won’t regret.

Bathroom Mats
If under-floor heating isn’t for you, bathroom mats are a very easy solution to prevent cold feet. The thicker the mats, the better they’ll be and you’ll easily be able to find some that match your bathroom’s decor and colour scheme.

Is your Geyser ready for winter?

Your hot water plumbing system will experience more than its fair share of wear and tear during the colder months. Geysers work much harder to warm water in the winter due to the lower temperatures and the increase in demand for hot water.
The importance of Geyser Maintenance
Without proper maintenance leading up to winter, it is very common for drains, pipes and geysers to experience problems or need to be replaced or repaired when the temperatures start to drop.

Keep your Drains clear this winter

Keep your Drains clear this winter

With the start of cold, crisp mornings and chilly evenings, it is safe to say that winter is on the way! It is never too late to prepare your home and plumbing for the cold weather. Drains are one of the highest maintenance parts of your house’s plumbing, and that is especially true in winter.
Food items like coffee grounds, oil, grease and even tiny bits of food can clog your drains by collecting in the pipes, preventing the free flow of water. In winter, cold pipes and drains can cause these substances to solidify more quickly and cause severe blockages.
Some tips to prepare your drains for winter:
  • Have your drains checked and cleaned regularly
  • Never pour oil or grease into the kitchen sink or any drains
  • Make use of drain and plug hole covers or screens
A clogged drain can push water back up into your home and cause significant damage to walls and flooring, making regular maintenance of drains critically crucial to any home. At Bosman Plumbing, all of our service teams operate with the best quality tools, equipment and excellent support to ensure your drain maintenance is dealt with swiftly and efficiently.

Things to ask your Plumber before you start Renovating your Bathroom

Things to ask your Plumber before you start Renovating your Bathroom

Are you thinking about renovating your bathroom? An extra-large shower and luxurious soaking bath may be on your wish list – but will they work in your existing space?
Your plumbing professionals are the perfect people to help you realise your renovating dreams. Professional plumbers can help you find solutions to any issues your home may have that you have never considered.
Bathroom renovations, sanitary ware replacement, installation and plumbing maintenance are what we do best at Bosman Plumbing, and these are some of the things we recommend asking before starting to renovate.
–      Do I have the required water pressure for the new fixtures I would like?
Many popular features like rainfall showerheads or showers with multiple showerheads require sufficient water supply to support the water pressure needed.

–      How much space do I need?
Fixtures typically have minimum space requirements for installation. Your Plumber can help you to assess whether or not the fixtures you would like to use will fit into your space and offer alternative solutions if needed.
–      What are my water-saving options?
With so many new water-saving options now available to improve water efficiency, a bathroom renovation is a perfect time to incorporate these and help save on costs in the long term.
–      Do I need to update my pipes?
If you are planning a complete bathroom renovation project, you will likely be tearing out tile and working on the walls and floor, so it can be a good time to update old pipes to avoid future leaks.
