In our previous blog,
“Bring it on, itchy noses and all“, Bosman Plumbing promised us another helpful series in our
‘Exploring Home Resolutions for 2021 series’. With as much time as we spend at home at present, and with as much attention as we spend maintaining our belongings inside our house, we should not forget about the things that keep our homes in good working order. As an asset, our homes deserve to be kept in their best condition and what better way to do this than with a list of spring-cleaning tips.
Bosman Plumbing top cleaning plumbing tips you can’t forget:
1. Check your pipes: spring is an excellent time to do a routine check of all pipes in and around your home for leaks and drips. In winter we spend more time at home. Our sanitary fixture and fitting get more workout time than we do. Take a quick walk through your house and if you spot something suspicious, take care of them right away.
2. Clean behind the toilet: especially if the area behind and around your toilet isn’t part of your regular routine. Blackwater or sewerage, as we know, can be corrosive, and tiles and fitting can be damaged by small leaks and spills.
3. Clean your drains: They might not be clogged, but preventative measures will help avoid a clog in the future. Though not a necessity as part of our Bosman Plumbing small tool kit, consider purchasing a drain snake to clear out any debris that might be there waiting to produce a clog. This can be helpful within the home and beneficial for the outdoors, especially in homes with extensive winter shedding trees.
4. Empty the gutters: your gutter drains, downpipes, and external water catchment tanks will thank you as fallen leaves and other debris make their way into your system during winter. Clear out the muck and run a little water from your catchment tank through the system to ensure all clogs are taken care of.
5. Descale and ban the mineral build-up: check your taps, showerheads, and spouts for mineral build-up. It’s essential to take care of this before it becomes a problem. And while you’re down there, attack the soap scum, and polish up those dull-looking fixtures. Later in our series, we will dedicate a whole blog on descaling and mineral build-up. So, keep reading.
6. Check the water heater temperature: if you have adjusted the temperature for winter, now is the time to start thinking about changing your geyser temperature. As we head into summer, the need for scalding hot showers fades. Be an energy-efficient temperature guru and adjust that thermostat a little.

Bosman Plumbing knows that when the wind starts blowing and noses start itching, Spring is in the air, and our annual spring-cleaning endeavours are about to begin.
Most of our clients end their winter hibernation with a good old clean, clothes are sorted, and floors are scrubbed, those scary little corners in the home that housed our winter critters are dusted and even a little purging and donating happens around this time of year.
With the season in mind, Bosman Plumbing brings us another handy list in our ‘Exploring Home Resolutions for 2021 series’.
For September, we will be bringing you several tips for Spring cleaning, from gutter cleaning, descaling the nasties around your taps and even a comprehensive lesson or two that will assist you in maintaining your cleaning assets. No, not your partner in crime, although they could use a little mowing and freshen up. Our trusty washing machines and dishwashers will be highlighted with a “how to clean and maintain” and how to keep your home’s plumbing fixtures in tip-top shape. With Bosman Plumbing at your side, Spring has never looked as bright.

In our previous blog, “Be better, together”, Bosman Plumbing shed tears and cheers with their clients as we watched South Africa and the competing athletes bring home medal after medal. As a country, we stood together in pride, watching our champions take their place on the podium. We are proudly South African, and we are “better together”.
Every year, in August, South Africa marks Women’s Month, though slightly off date from international woman’s day, August holds significance as we pay tribute to the women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest of the extension of Pass Laws to women.
The protest was led by Lilian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa, and Sophia Williams. With 14,000 petitions and 100,000 signatures left outside the prime minister’s door, the woman held a thirty-minute silent protest. After, songs were sung to honour the event, to ensure their voices were heard. “Wathint’Abafazi Wathint’imbokodo”, which translates to “Now you have touched the women, you have struck a rock,” was composed for the event. It is still considered a symbol of strength.
We pay tribute not only to the thousands of women who marched on that day in 1956, but also to the pioneers of the women’s movement in this country, dating back to 1913. Charlotte Maxeke established the ANC Women’s League engaging in the struggle for freedom.
We remember the names of Ray Alexander Simons, Elizabeth Mafikeng and Elizabeth Abrahams associated with the struggles of women. In the 1940s, Amina Pahad and Gadijah Christopher were amongst the first volunteers to occupy the 1946 Passive Resistance Campaign on Umbilo Road in Durban.
We celebrate and remember the woman from our past, the mother’s and grandmother’s, the teachers, and caregivers. The nurses and leaders who bring change, wisdom, and love.
Bosman plumbing wishes all women strength and conviction, gratitude, and abundance during this month. Remain resilient, remain patient, ever-loving, and strong and “better together”.

In our previous blog, “
The future of clean water and sanitation”, Bosman Plumbing gave us a glimpse of our future. How urbanization will affect our ability to “produce” clean drinking and “fit for use” water and sanitation access.
With the Tokyo Olympics in full swing, we have been privy to an inside look at the future of “Zero-Carbon” and the United Nations’ 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) addressing such issues as climate change, as well as sustainable consumption and production, calls for the maximum use of renewable energy sources during the games.
With a lofty goal of “zero wasting,” the organizers aim to achieve 99 percent reuse or recycling across all procured items, goods and delivery, to minimize resource waste and degradation of ecosystems.
Did you know that approximately 5,000 medals will be awarded at the games? Those medals have been forged from precious recycled metals recovered from used smartphones, digital cameras, computers, and other small electronic devices handed in by consumers for that purpose.
With all eyes on Tokyo, we share in their journey, learn from their experience and cheer on all participating athletes making history during this Global pandemic.
South Africa will have 185 athletes, making it the largest contingent the country has ever sent to the Olympics, with South Africa competing in 17 of the 33 Olympic sports on offer.
Though too many to name individually, Bosman Plumbing wishes each athlete ‘good luck’ with their tourney and a safe and healthy return.
